Mimu, which translates to ‘drink’, in a West African dialect, lets you find your closest Mimu bar on the map, and then once you’re there you can order your drink and food from the fully customisable menu. Using Braintree, the payment gateway behind some of your other favourite services like Uber and Dropbox, users can safely upload their credit card info and then never have to queue up, swipe or forget their card behind the bar ever again. No more hand-waving to get the bar-staff attention, you just order on your phone, from your table, and get billed on-line, just like Uber.
Mimu has been founded by Andrew Jones and David Ogilvie-O’Neil. Andrew, a veteran of the liquor industry, has been previous State Manager of Diageo and Regional Sales Director for CUB, and David has a twenty-year background in engineering, including human-machine interfaces, and was a co-founder of Mobitasks.
Queuing and paying for drinks, when everything else around could be ordered in three swipes, motivated the Mimu team to come up with something faster and better than shouting across the bar, or collecting a buzzer. Mimu replaces the bar queue and will replace the dreaded food buzzer.
The Australian Hotels Association of WA writes that “the AHA supports and identifies Mimu as a leader of technology within the hospitality sector”, and Mimu is clear that it is encouraging a safe, vibrant and hassle- free bar and restaurant environment.
Early results are already demonstrating that people love the ease and simplicity of using Mimu and, positively for venues, spending more money because of it.
“This is just the start of the Mimu experience”, Andrew said. With recent backing from Asahi Premium Beverages, Mimu is expecting to launch a sponsored user referral and venue growth program imminently.
With the support of the Mimu team, Jack’s was given plenty of scope to design, architect, and implement the Mimu app’s entire technology suite. Native applications power the users’ glitch free mobile experience, databases and custom APIs written by Jack’s engineering team are hosted by the AWS cloud, and a hybrid app powers the tablets behind the bar. With Braintree and Doshii, payments and POS integration is safe and seamless, and the user experience is sharp and intuitive.
